Microseismic Industry Consortium research on display at the SSA

April 20-22, 2016

MIC research was prominently showcased from April 20-22 at the annual meeting of the Seismological Society of America (SSA), attended by 650 seismologists from around the world. The Induced Seismicity session on Wednesday, co-chaired by Dave Eaton, featured 2 oral presentations and 8 posters as follows:

Oral

  * Eaton, Cheadle and Fox, A causal link between overpressured hydrocarbon source rocks and seismicity induced by hydraulic fracturing.
  * Zhang and Eaton, Moment Tensor inversion for induced earthquakes in the western Canada Sedimentary Basin.

Poster

  * Bao et al., Matched filtering analysis of induced seismicity in the Crooked Lake Region, Alberta: correlation with hydraulic-fracturing operations
  * Anderson and Eaton, Induced seismicity due to wastewater injection near Peace river, Alberta
  * MacKay et al., Triggered seismicity source mechanisms: Modelling fault complexity in critically stressed crust
  * AbuAisha et al., Simulating hydraulic fracturing using finite-discrete element method (FDEM): effects of pre-existing joints and lateral stress gradient
  * Daniels et al., A coda based method for precise focal depth determination in sedimentary basins
  * Maghsoudi et al, On the importance of inter-event triggering in microseismicity induced by hydraulic fracturing
  * Sattari and Eaton, Finite element modelling of fault reactivation: Stress drop and slip
  * Eaton and Krebes, Earthquake stress-drop tensors and critical states during fluid injection

In addition, Dave Eaton co-chaired a session on April 22 entitled "Research Efforts to Improve Regulatory Performance for Induced Seismicity".
